Measuring your dog....

We understand that some people are concerned about getting your measurements right, we also know from experience that some people are not confident about taking the measurements.

To help you we we offer a free video call where we can guide you through the process.

Please contact us to arrange a video call and we will assist you.

Please take time to read the instructions for measuring carefully.
  • It is best if two people assist with measuring.
  • Use a flexible tape measure (dressmakers tape or similar).
  • Stand your dog on a flat hard surface and have one person support your dog under its belly and under their chin.
  • Measure your dog when they (and you) are calm and relaxed.
  • Take all six measurements at least twice and check they are very similar.
  • ALL measurements follow the contours of the dogs body.
  • Front and Back legs are normally (not always though) the same or very close in length.
  • Back length should be measured along the spine from the collar to the base of the tail (it helps to left the tail so you can see where it leaves the body at the spine).
  • DO NOT add length for growth or fit we will do this where required.
  • If you are unsure or need some help with the measurements please message us and we will arrange a Video Call to assist you.
How we use the measurements:
  • Each coat has its own paper pattern created.
  • When we draw your pattern we can generally see that a measurement looks 'out of the norm' when we notice this we will contact you and ask for a measurement to be checked. We usually do this by video call.
  • Out of the hundreds of coats we have made only two have had exactly the same dimensions, there is no such generic Small, Medium and Large that will suit dogs of different breeds and builds.
  • By creating our own patterns from your dimensions we can ensure that the coat will fit.
VERY IMPORTANT: If you send/supply measurements that are incorrect the coat will NOT fit and cannot be altered. The coat would need to be redrawn and remade. Unfortunately we have to make a charge £15 for the replacement materials plus the return postage.
